Most
of the old small shops that were once the lifeblood of the Kite community
were vacated quite early on in the planning wrangles that inevitably
led to their demolition. The vacant premises were often squatted and developed
into new small businesses, mostly providing an eclectic blend of anarchist
and 'old hippie' sub-culture supplies.
I can't remember if anyone had 'liberated' this shop in that way before
its demise, or even what it had sold previously. The murals were painted
by local children under the watchful eye of Kite Community Action.
