Saffron
Walden was home to Edwin Smith & Olive Cook, to whom
a
section of this web site is dedicated.
Following Olive's death in
early 2002, I re-visited the town where they had both lived to view a small
memorial show held by the
Fry
Gallery.
I was sad at her passing, but as I wandered around the town
afterwards I thought of all the fantastic books, photography, artwork
and writings the two had produced in their lifetimes and the inspiration
that Edwin's photography had given me, alongside Olive's ceaseless
encouragement of my work.
This picture was made that day in the churchyard at Saffron Walden and invokes
many 'Edwinisms' when I look at it - all it needed to complete the homage was
a cat.
