Much has been written about Frederick Evans' photograph of the chapter house steps at Wells Cathedral, famously know in photographic circles as the 'Sea of Steps'.
Evans' version (1903) inspired me to visit, locate the well-worn tripod holes in the floor, and capture a photograph that thousands have made before me - including, or course, Edwin Smith.
Unfortunately I was 'without tripod' that day so, hand-holding the camera in the dim light, this image is not quite as sharp as I would have liked, but it works.Fuji GW690III, Tri-X 120 Film
